October 30, 2011: The temporary tents were delivered to We Advance by GlassFrog today! We are so excited to have been a part of this great team working together to provide shelter where it's needed NOW!
WE ADVANCE is a movement to advance the health, safety, and well being of women throughout Haiti. They work in some of the poorest slums in all of the western hemisphere – Wharf Jeremy and Cité Soleil – where security issues deter the work of most international NGOs. They provide hygiene classes for women at the clinic and extensive outreach programs to promote hygiene and prenatal care. In collaboration with Yele Haiti, the community outreach course is made up of 10 individual classes on core subjects including health, hygiene, Gender Based Violence and human rights, is led 100% by Haitian trainers, and graduates 360 community residents every month.
In partnership with Glass Frog and We Advance, 15 temporary tent structures were deployed on site to provide immediate shade and shelter for programs for women and children run by We Advance. With the support of Urban Zen, FAARM is designing a permanent bamboo pavilion structure to accommodate on-going public health classes and community activities.
